Bio
Born Ryan Best in Los Angeles, the soon to be DJ MR. BEST grew up in Philadelphia where he began a life long love affair with music. Influenced by an eclectic blend of Rock & Roll, R&B, and Hip-Hop, he developed a well-rounded appreciation for music, and began collecting records at a young age. He also grew a passion for music history, songwriting, and live performance, specifically DJ-ing from the influence of his father who was an accomplished musician/songwriter before he was born.
After getting his first set of DJ equipment, MR. BEST quickly learned the craft and began DJ-ing at local bars and lounges in the area. He became an in-demand house party DJ at several local colleges and made a name for himself in Philadelphia. Soon, he decided to move back to Los Angeles and further his career as a prominent West Coast DJ. His first big break came when a small bar in Hollywood called The Dime hired him as their only DJ. The bar grew to be a hot spot attracting a diverse crowd of musicians, celebrities, and local patrons alike.
The Dime led to many prestigious gigs in the Los Angeles event scene. MR. BEST began DJ-ing after-parties for The Academy Awards, The Golden Globes, and The Emmys, as well as various movie and television premiere events such as Seven Pounds, Salt, Burlesque, Black Swan, Lost, and The Office to name a few. He became the go-to DJ doing events such as US Weekly’s Hollywood Hot Party and consecutive events like GQ Man of The Year Awards for 6 years in a row. His influence has even spread to Vegas where he’s done events like Polaroid’s CES After Party for Lady Gaga. Soon, major corporate clients followed as MR. BEST was hired for companies such as Mercedes Benz and Viacom, as well as celebrity clients such as Paris Hilton, Lauren Conrad, and Britney Spears.
When the owners of The Dime opened a new club called Winston’s, MR. BEST was named resident DJ. Crown Bar followed, and MR. BEST was appointed Music Director for all three venues. The clubs quickly became Hollywood hot spots, leading MR. BEST to features in high profile publications such as Vanity Fair, LA Confidential Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and Us Weekly. He was also included in a cover story for Teen Vogue magazine where he worked on set with platinum recording star Ciara and famed photographer Frederick Helwig.
To further diversify himself, MR. BEST has also mastered the new art of Video DJ-ing and threw the hottest weekly video mixing party in Hollywood. In addition, he has released various mixtapes, the most recent being “Kool Jawns Vol. 1” (2008) and “Vibes & Stuff Vol. 1” (2010). He also teamed up with a producing partner, DJ Spider to do official remixes for major record labels including tracks for Usher (Love In This Club & DJ Got Us Falling In Love) that became an exclusive ringtone deal through Sony Erickson, Ciara (Go Girl), and Far East Movement (Rocketeer). Their production has also been featured on FOX’s primetime television show “Bones”.
Always evolving with the industry, MR. BEST continues to grow making his television debut as a club DJ on HBO’s hit series “Entourage”. He was then cast as the prom DJ with a speaking role in the Polish Brothers movie “Stay Cool.” He has also made appearances on reality shows including MTV’S “Meet the Barkers,” “The Hills,” and “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.”
Through it all, MR. BEST has become an example of homegrown talent that earned his place through hard work and determination.
